Thai Amavasai Tharpanam 2026


Thai is the First month of the Uttarayanam period (Six month period from winter to summer).

Amavasai (New moon) day in the month of Thai (known as Thai Amavasai) is ideal for taking a dip in the sea and offering Tharpanam to ancestors who are also known as Thenpulathaar, in Tamil.

Thai Amavasai is a special day meant for the worship of ancestors. Thai Amavasai falls this year on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Tharpanam will be conducted between 6.00am and 1.00pm.

Athmashanthi Archanai will be performed in the morning from 6.30am to 1.00pm and in the evening from 6.30pm to 9.30pm
