Project Bhakti classes are conducted by a group of youth volunteers under the aegis of the Hindu Endowments Board. Since its inception in 2001, Project Bhakti has catered to the religious needs of Hindu children in Singapore. The English-medium classes are taught to children between the ages of 5 to 16 years old. Each year, more than 500 children partake in these Hinduism classes, which are conducted at some of the local Hindu temples.
Registration for these classes is S$ 30/- Only
Project Bhakti aims to share the rich Indian culture and ancient spiritual wisdom using the medium of stories, dramas, games, hands-on activities and discussions. Such activities help to inculcate values for right thinking and action in children, and inspire them to live up to those values with correct understanding.
Project Bhakti classes provide a platform for children to appreciate the richly diverse culture of Hinduism as well as the positive attitude that Hindus have towards other religions and cultures. Such understanding will help children to relate to their roots and expose young minds to all that is best in Hindu culture and values.
In Singapore’s fast paced environment, children have minimum exposure to our rich culture. The temptations of the environment are also becoming more and more sophisticated to lure the young minds and there is an urgent need to educate our young to develop a healthy resistance.
Character building starts from young and it is every nation’s and parent’s responsibility to ensure that the child is given the right atmosphere to grow with noble ideals, healthy emotions and physical discipline. Let us work hand in hand to achieve this for our trend-setters of the future generations.
The teachers are youth volunteers who have a keen interest in Hinduism and have a passion for community service. Youth volunteers are engaged to teach in the programme so that the children are better able to relate to them as it narrows down the generation gap.
To cater to the convenience of neighbourhood premises for the children, Project Bhakti classes are held mainly in various temples throughout Singapore. the classes are held at the following locations:
Sunday Classes (9.00am to 11.00am) – For 5 to 12 year olds
Saturday Classes (2.00pm to 4.00pm) – For 5 to 12 year olds
Teens Class (Sundays, 10.00am to 12.00nn) – For 13 to 16 year olds
There are two semesters per calendar year. The modules are formulated per semester basis, comprising twelve lessons beginning from mid-January to April and another twelve lessons beginning from July to October. At the end of the second semester, a one-day workshop is held where students from all the centres converge and have a day filled with activities like talks, art ‘n’ craft, games and competitions.
The cost per semester per child is $30.00. All materials will be provided. Free transport is also provided for most locations. However, you will need to check the availability with the teacher in-charge at the point of registration.
